1. Temporal and spatial heterogeneities and the aging dynamics in a 2D colloidal system [pdf-file]

We study the internal dynamics of a two-dimensional colloidal system. Depending on the applied magnetic field the superparamagnetic particles interacts more or less strongly with their neighbors . Even in the glassy state, when the system behaves mostly like a solid whenever it remains desorganised like a liquid, the particles keep an internal dynamics and rearrange themselves, trying to reach a more steady configuration. This evolution of the properties of the system, called aging, is still poorly understood and suffer a lack of experimental realization. That's why we propose to observe it directly by the use of a quasi ideal 2D colloid system in order to observe directly the mechanisms which take place and which lead to an aging internal dynamics. The work will consist in an experimental part using our 2D colloidal system observation setup, followed by modern image analysis and data evaluation.

2. Interstitials and vacancies in a two-dimensional colloidal system [pdf-file]
