After a quick overview what soft matter is, the following topics will be covered: Interactions in soft matter suspensions, hard sphere colloids and Brownian motion, statistical physics of polymers, experimental and numerical techniques in Soft Matter, microscopic origin of visco-elasticity, surfaces and surfactants, liquid crystals, granular matter, foams, charged colloids, colloids as model systems for solid state physics, biological soft matter. The course will cover the essential physical properties of soft matter based on experimental characterization as well as some easy accessible theoretical modelling.
